I have something on the go right now that this is relevant to so answers will be very much appreciated regardless of there brevity or simplicity.

:bulletpurple: MOVIES/DVD’s:

Went to see 10,000BC... Loved it in a long awaited prequel to Stargate kinda way... but how come we didn't get to see a reveal of the nictating eyelids we were given a glimse of in the trailer? Oh and now I have a PC with DVD capability I've caught up with Firefly and Heroes and Vincent all of which I love to bits.

Add to that I got to see V for Vendetta which considering the subject matter and the current climate was a sore disappointment... no wonder Alan Moore had his name removed from any association with this film.

:bulletpurple: MUSIC:

A bunch of live bands locally... including the excellent Hoxton Hoboes... Other than that listening to Accuradio's Twang Station a lot particularly their Insurgent Country Station... Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds new CD, plus Passenger, Down, The Decemberists, Soulsavers, 16 Horsepower, Jay Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots, Wovenhand, Strawfoot, Tom Waits - Orphans, Nick Cave - B-sides and raraties, Pale Septembre by Camille and Kittiwake by MyVisor ( [link] ) Alas The Nobles (also on Myspace), Koopa (bless 'em).

I would want hard deadlines. I hated in school that people could wiggle around turning work in late for illustration class.

I would want assignments that help generate portfolio work for the field of illustration I'm interested in. Editorial illustration assignment do nothing for a portfolio geared towards medical illustration for example.

Anything educational should encourage a high degree of risk taking as far as execution because once you're out in the work force your ability to take risks drops significantly.

Thanks for your input... This is solid stuff, really useful.

Much appreciated.

I also believe that character and composition are crucial. To understand how the body moves, and how to place that body in a scene. I've always struggled personally with how to draw people. And the stuff you did with the white chapel feel showed such amazing dramatic energy.

Thanks Corey...

(the reason I'm asking is I've got an interview as course leader on a illustration course this next Wednesday and so thought it might be interesting to canvas some opinion to take into them)...

What'd be good is a course which each student could tailor for their own specific aspirations. So at the beginning of the course (or possibly each year) they state what area they're interested in and then they take each assignment and fit it to that. That'd allow a really wide variety though, possibly it'd make the work produced across the board too diverse.

Perhaps it'd be possible to offer a choice of different fields of study, so that the students still have a choice and get a taste of different styles without you having to deal with a different field for each student.

Well... I didn't get then post.

But the interviews went well and they even arranged a second interview later in the week for me for another post that hasn't even been properly structured yet.

They also want me to go up and do some guest lecturing too.

So all in all it went well...

Anyway I cheered myself up and bought myself another new toy... (laughs)
